The Enginepedia In ancient myth, the history of Humankind was seen as one of continual, gradual decline, rather than an unstoppable march of progress. So it is in the Star Engine universe, where a great civilization once flourished but is no more. In its place is a galaxy where steam powered space ships crisscross the stars as Humanity tries to rediscover everything it lost so very long ago. They are joined on their quest by pointy eared servants, ELFs (Engineered Life Forms), as well as numerous machines and other ancient technology and weapons. The Silver Republic dominates all of known space, going from world to world seeking to monopolise ancient technology and the understanding of it.
